DARKTHRONE Dedicate New Song To Fallen VOIVOD Guitarist
December 19, 2005Norway's DARKTHRONE have dedicated a new song on their upcoming album, "The Cult Is Alive" (out February. 27, 2006 on Peaceville) to fallen guitar hero Denis D'Amour (a.k.a. Piggy) and his pioneering metal band VOIVOD.
In new promotional photos of the band on their official website, DARKTHRONE's Nocturno Culto is seen sporting a classic VOIVOD t-shirt.
About the tribute to Piggy, Nocturno says, "Hell fuckin' yeah, VOIVOD totally rules! I place VOIVOD among my other faves from the '80s. We have dedicated one of our songs on the new album to Piggy and VOIVOD, it's called 'Atomic Coming'."
D'Amour died August 26, 2005 in a Montreal hospital from complications of advanced colon cancer.
Adds Nocturno Culto, "DARKTHRONE sends their best regards to the old gods and can't wait to hear the new album when it comes out."
VOIVOD are currently working with producer Glen Robinson on their as-yet-untitled album. The band are utilizing all of the guitar parts that Piggy had recorded for the record on his laptop with ProTools before his death.
VOIVOD's much-anticipated CD should surface late spring on The End Records in North America.
